BRAVE NEW WORLD

OK lets do this...

Who would have thought creating identical babies by the thousands through a machine? Strange...werid...crazy might not be enough words to describe "Brave New World," once you start reading it. Curiosity keeps on building as you read further into the novel. To live in a world where you can't express any emotions, or are shocked when you hear the words, mother and father is unthinkable. " We also predestine and condition. we decant our babies as socialized human beings, as Alphas or Epsilons, as future sewage workers or future...." He was going to say "future world controllers," but correcting himself, said "future Directors of Hatcheries," instead ( Huxley, 13). In our world today, we have many classes, the rich, the medium, and the poor. We ourselves, determine which one we fall into as time progresses. The knowledge we have gathered and decisions we make help determine where we belong in society. Where as in " Brave New World", they make the choice for you. I think this is unethical to do so because labeling a person rich or poor without knowing there full potential is very wrong. Especially if you are going to label them when they have not even entered the world yet. This basically just throws off being unique and your own person. Well you could look on the positive side to this at least you don't have to worry about identity theft. Personally, I believe living in this kind of society is insane. Comparing our world to the one in the book is very different. In a community, where the citizens believe that marriage and commitment hold no meanings is very different from ours. All the citizens are encouraged and engaged in a one night stand. In reality, most of us believe in love, marriages, and commitment. We are also encouraged to wait until we get married. Although the community described in this book is very unusual compared to ours, the book is still very interesting!

  1. Everything that you said is very interesting. Especially when you mentioned "we decant our babies as socialized human beings, as Alphas or Epsilons, as future sewage workers or future...." He was going to say "future world controllers," but correcting himself, said "future Directors of Hatcheries," instead ( Huxley, 13". It shows that Huxley is trying to make this world sound not so bad with "director" instead of "controllers". Also i love the idea of how they engage in a one night stand, it sounds funny but it is true and not many of us agree with that. Plus I do not want to be labeled either if i was in that world, and WE should be our own unique person. Curiosity is a good word to describe this book and i hope it gets more intense as we read on!!!!!
    YOUR AWESOME! =)

  2. i have a question... with divorce and infidelity on the rise how is marriage and commitment different than in the book? however i DO believe that some people still believe that marriage is forever and should be monogomous (i dont have a dictionary sorry if misspelled). i like your thoughts on a predetermined future. it isnt right in any way that someone is made to do one thing and nothing else. having the option of improving your lifestyle or job income will is one of the wonderful things about america... even if situations at times can be slightly tilted in one direction, its still possible to up or down the economic or class ladder.

  3. So...I thought that your blog was interesting. I liked when you said that "In our world today, we have many classes, the rich, the medium, and the poor. We ourselves, determine which one we fall into as time progresses. The knowledge we have gathered and decisions we make help determine where we belong in society." When you said that by how much knowledge we have and the choices we make is the way our world differs from Brave New World, I absolutely agreed. Also, when you said that we decide were we stand in this world, I immediately thought of the saying that our world has lived by for many years. This saying is, “you are who we choose to be” and unlike Brave New World each person is an individual. I really liked your explanation of how you thought the book was in your opinion. My views about this book are similar and I enjoyed reading about yours!!
