DID YOU KNOW???
NO I DIDN’T KNOW…. Everything in the video we watched in class was crazy and funny at some points.
In Alan Kirby article it states that “postmodernism is dead and buried. In its place comes a new paradigm of authority and knowledge formed under the pressure of new technologies and contemporary social forces.” The video that we watched in class is a perfect example of this, it introduces new idea and subject(s) that no one would ever thought about. Going back to Kirby, he talks about the “authority and knowledge formed under the pressure of new technologies,” this is so true when someone is under the pressure or on a time crunch they come up with the weirdest and craziest ideas but yet they work… in our time today we think about how people who lived years ago and find it strange but yet there survival techniques worked and we progressed to become a better society. What does this all mean? Well we have progressed and evolved in so many different ways that people too are starting to move forward. Although we may have started to move on and embrace our future that doesn’t mean you have to forget your traditions or beliefs. J
A paradigm is “a set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.” I don’t think we are moving into a more paradigm society because there are so many people that are not afraid to express there opinions and are very open-minded. … that having a “set society” wouldn’t flow there way.
In my opinion, I don’t see a change in the relationship between knowledge and power. I like to view it as the more knowledge one has determines the power they have. (Hopefully you guys understand that).

ReplyDeleteWell girl, nice blog. You had some very interesting points that I never really put much thought into. Kudos to you for that! But yet, on the other hand there were some of your beliefs and concepts that differed greatly from my own.
I really liked when you said,” Although we may have started to move on and embrace our future that doesn’t mean you have to forget your traditions or beliefs.” This is a very good point. Although we may technologically incline as a whole, this doesn’t mean that we have to give up our beliefs. Technology shouldn’t corrupt our personal morals or traditions. If we allow it to, we may come up with a Brave New World type of scenario. In this society, the people allowed technology to corrupt their traditions of humanity.
On the other hand, I didn’t really agree with your last point when you said,” In my opinion, I don’t see a change in the relationship between knowledge and power.” Well, I believe that with more knowledge comes more power. This is the only thing that gave me a little trouble.
But, overall your blog was awesome! Good job!
P.S. sorry I deleted my first comment, the indentions were totally off!
Hey Navee!! So your blog was very interesting and i always enjoy reading your blogs. So, I am going to get straight to the point. I thought it was interesting how you said that our society has progressed to become a better society. I agree and disagree with this statement. I think that our world has become very technologically advanced that we are able to do things faster and much easier than a long time ago. However, I do not think all the things now have helped to make our society better. For instance, kids today, all they do is text message each other. No one calls on the telephone as much anymore, we just text it to them instead. This makes us informal and anti-social. So, for could cause kids now to not be prepared for one on one deep conversations or with talking in person. Alrighty, well I hope that made sense and I hope you like reading this blog comment!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome blog babygrl!!!!!!!!! I totally agree iwht everthing you said...esp. when you mentioned "I don’t see a change in the relationship between knowledge and power. I like to view it as the more knowledge one has determines the power they have." I like that a lot... VERY A LOT! Lol.....being open-minded is what we all should consider and if everyone was like that then i think our world would be a better place.... ALso i like this quote right here -----> “postmodernism is dead and buried. In its place comes a new paradigm of authority and knowledge formed under the pressure of new technologies and contemporary social forces.” With all the new sciences and technology it's taking over all the myths and narratives that exist in the past that still influence us today, and what knows what will happen in the future ..everyone might just not believe in anymore superstition because there are probably a lot of answers by then. Well, time to wrap this up...FANTASTIC JOB!! your such a hard worker..keep it up!!
